WLKY DOMINIC GATES HAS MORE. TO SEE THEM ACCOMPLISH. YOU KNOW THE THINGS THAT THEY’VE ACCOMPLISHED, THE YOU KNOW, OVER THE YEARS AND TO GET US TO THE POINT THAT WE ARE I’M SO PROUD OF IT. IT’S BEEN A SPECIAL YEAR FOR SCOTTSBORO GIRLS BASKETBALL. THE WARRIORETTES WON THEIR FIRST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 1995. IT’S AMAZING BECAUSE I KNOW THAT MY NAME IS GOING TO BE ON A BANNER AND LIKE WHEN I COME BACK TO WATCH OTHER GAMES, I’LL SEE IT UP THERE AND BE PROUD OF WHAT I’VE ACCOMPLISHED. CARRY DANIELS IS IN HER FOURTH SEASON COACHING HER ALMA MATER. SHE WAS A SOPHOMORE ON THE SCHOOL’S LONE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1989. NOW SHE HAS THE WARRIORETTES BACK IN THE STATE CONVERSATION. WHEN I WALK IN THIS GYM EVERY DAY, I JUST GET GOOSEBUMPS, YOU KNOW, SEEING THE BANNERS, KNOWING ALL THE SWEAT AND HARD WORK THAT I POURED IN MYSELF AND THE TEAMS THAT I PLAYED ON. AND NOW TO BE BACK HERE AND LEADING THE TEAM, UM, IT’S SO SPECIAL. IT’S TRULY COME FULL CIRCLE FOR ME. SCOTTSBORO HAD TWO STRAIGHT LOSING SEASONS BEFORE BOUNCING BACK LAST YEAR WITH THE 19 AND SIX RECORD. THIS YEAR, THE GROUP IS 22 AND FOUR, AND PLAYING IN THE SEMI-STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND JUST TWO WINS AWAY FROM THE CLASS THREE, A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. IT WOULD MEAN SO MUCH NOT JUST FOR LIKE OUR TEAM, BUT AS THE WHOLE, THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE. UM, TO SCOTTSBORO BASKETBALL AS A WHOLE, IT’S BEEN 29 YEARS SINCE THE WARRIORETTES HAVE BEEN IN THIS POSITION, BUT THIS TEAM HAS NO INTENTIONS OF ENDING THIS HISTORIC RUN JUST YET. WE JUST CAN STAY FOCUSED AND CONTINUE DOING WHAT GOT US HERE TO THIS MOMENT IN TIME.
