HOUSTON — "The foundation of my upbringing was centered around farming, as we relied on the land for both our meals and natural remedies. In a similar vein, my father was raised on a farm in Tunica, MS, where they cultivated everything they needed to sustain themselves. When our family migrated to Chicago during the Great Black migration, we brought these agricultural practices with us. Despite residing in an urban setting, we made the most of any available green spaces, and the house my parents bought had a three-tier garden bordering a channel. Each spring and fall, we would plant and harvest our own produce. My father imparted his wisdom on canning, preservation, homemade wine and jelly making, as well as the identification of medicinal and potentially harmful plants. It was only natural for me to develop a fascination with plant medicine, known as herbalism!
At the heart of my business lies an unbreakable bond to my family heritage, firmly grounded in values passed down through generations. Honoring the incredible women who came before me, I have poured my soul into crafting products that pay homage to their enduring wisdom. By embracing the inherent power of plant-based remedies in skincare, I proudly embrace my role as a tribute for our cherished traditions, carrying forward the timeless tradition of using nature for rejuvenation and healing." - Akilah Scott-Amos
