Eagle County School District Board of Education seeks new member

Applications are now open to represent District F, which encompasses portions of EagleVail, Avon

There is a seat open on the Eagle County School District Board of Education to represent portions of EagleVail and Avon.

At its Wednesday, Feb. 14 meeting, the school board officially declared a vacancy for the District F seat. The seat was held by former school board president Michelle Stecher, who resigned after a move across Eagle County made her unable to serve in the district. Stecher’s last board meeting was Wednesday, Jan. 24.

With the vacancy occurring between elections, the current board will appoint the next member. The appointee will serve until the next regular school biennial election in November 2025.

With the vacancy officially declared, interested residents have until Monday, March 4, to apply. Applicants will be interviewed by the six current members of the school board at its next meeting on Wednesday, March 13, during an afternoon work session. The final appointment will be made at the regular session that evening.

Interested applicants must live within the District F boundaries. The district includes portions of EagleVail and Avon north of U.S. Highway 6 and south of I-70 from Avon Road west to Reserve Road, north to the Eagle River and west to the Edwards Access Road. It includes the Avon Elementary attendance area north of I-70 from the western town limits to Avon Road and north along Buck Creek.

Additionally, applicants must have been a registered voter of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months. A person is ineligible to run for school district director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.

According to its governance policies, the board’s primary function “is to establish policies by which the schools are to be administered,” supporting the “solutions that they believe will provide the greatest benefit to the largest number of students.”
