Amex opens Centurion lounge at Atlanta airport

15 Feb 2024 by Mark Caswell

American Express has opened its largest Centurion lounge to date, with the unveiling of a 2,400sqm facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport.

The lounge is situated near gate E11 on the airport’s Concourse E, and has been inspired by Atlanta’s reputation as “the city in the forest”, with a 50-year-old olive tree in the main seating area, a light sculpture representing a forest canopy, and a mural of abstracted leaf-like shapes by artist Evan Blackwell Helgeson.

It also features two firsts for a Centurion lounge – “multiple” year-round outdoor terraces, and dedicated whiskey bar The Reserve by American Express, with more than 20 classic and new American whiskeys.

The dining menu has been curated by Atlanta restaurateur Deborah VanTrece, with dishes including black eyed pea biryani, Za’atar grilled chicken thighs with green tomato chimichurri; and twisted soul salad with strawberry peppercorn vinaigrette.

Other facilities include shower suites, dedicated workstations and phone booths.

There are now 28 Centurion lounges worldwide, including a London Heathrow T3 facility which opened in 2021, and the group’s San Francisco lounge which reopened following a renovation and expansion project last year.

Forthcoming Centurion lounge locations include Reagan National and Newark Liberty International airports.

Commenting on the Atlanta opening Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, said:

“The new Centurion Lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will serve travellers in one of the airports our Card Members visit most.

“It features amenities we know travellers enjoy, like outdoor terraces, and plenty of space to relax, along with local touches infused throughout the menus and design, that guests will remember long after their trip.”
