Main Street standoff leads to DV arrest

COTTONWOOD — A Valentine’s Day domestic violence report turned into a brief standoff with police at a house in Old Town Cottonwood.

As a result, Brandon Bigler, 37, of St. George, Utah, was arrested and booked into Yavapai County Jail on expected charges of assault with intent to injure and disorderly conduct - fighting per domestic violence. He remained behind bars Thursday as the citation was issued through Cottonwood Municipal Court.

Cottonwood Police Department received the call around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. According to the CPD report, the incident in the 700 block of North Main Street was reported by “a concerned individual who observed through a surveillance camera a male subject forcefully grabbing and pushing a female subject as they approached the residence.”

When officers approached a window, “they overheard a male voice mocking and talking disparagingly about someone being a victim,” and they could see a man standing near a bed where a female was lying, the Thursday news release stated. When officers subsequently knocked on the door, neither responded.

CPD said an officer reported seeing “what appeared to be a firearm in the male subject’s hands.” That resulting in offers preparing for a barricade and hostage situation.

“The situation was de-escalated approximately an hour later when both subjects voluntarily exited the residence, allowing officers to secure the scene without further incident, moments before the arrival of SWAT, which was subsequently called off,” CPD reported.

It is not known whether Cottonwood Police officers recovered a firearm at the residence.
