A District man Thursday was found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2020 fatal shooting of a man who was waiting at a Southeast Washington bus stop.
During a trial in D.C. Superior Court, prosecutors said that Poe had been hunting for Washington on the day of the shooting and began following him earlier that day until Washington walked to the bus stop. After the shooting, authorities said, Poe abandoned the stolen truck and drove off in his girlfriend’s vehicle, which he left parked in a nearby church’s parking lot.
Poe was arrested nearly two weeks later.
Poe is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Michael O’Keefe on April 19. He faces decades in prison, with a minimum sentence of 30 years.
