Northern Colorado men’s basketball junior guard Dejour Reaves was named the Big Sky Conference player of the week for the first time this season, the league announced Tuesday.
Reaves averaged 23 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists in two home games last week against Montana State and Montana.
This is the seventh time in 13 weeks this season a UNC men’s basketball player has been named Big Sky Conference player of the the week. Bears junior forward Saint Thomas earned the honor in six other weeks, which is tied for most in the Big Sky this season.
Reaves was dominant Feb. 8 in UNC’s 73-70 win over Montana State, scoring 12 of his 21 points in the second half.
Two days later, Reaves scored 25 points in an 87-71 win over Montana. He shot 10 of 15 from the floor and 3 of 4 from 3-point range. He outscored Montana 12-2 midway through the first half including scoring 10 points in a row to increase UNC’s from 16-15 to 28-17.
He’s averaging 14.27 points and is the team’s second leading scorer behind Thomas. Reaves ranks ninth in the conference in scoring as of Feb. 12.
In 13 weeks the Big Sky has awarded a player of the week award this season, Reaves is only the fifth player to be honored other than Thomas and Weber State forward Dillon Jones. He’s a first-year player with the Bears after transferring from Trinidad State.
Jones and Thomas have each been named player of the week six times. Thomas was named co-player of the week three times and he earned the award alone in three other weeks. Jones’ honors have all been solo awards.
