The American Mural Project, 90 Whiting St., Winsted will present the second performance of the Happy Hour Piano Series, with singer/songwriter Jeff Boratko, on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. Admission is $6.
Boratko has worked with seven-time Grammy award-winner Paul Winter on that artist’s live-streamed concerts.
“Jeff [Boratko] is best known as the frontman of Streetlight Shakers, and he is a talented songwriter, pianist, and multi-instrumentalist in his own right. Jeff lights up the room with energy, whether playing originals or well-known covers,” said Michelle Begley, AMP’s program director in a press release.
The Happy Hour Piano Series offers an eclectic mix of musical genres and showcases the wealth of pianists in the region. Held on the fourth Friday of each month, from 5 to 7 pm, the piano series offers patrons a time to unwind with a drink from the cash/credit bar, mingle, and take in the grand scale of the mural exhibit from three levels.
“Every fourth Friday offers the same great vibe,” explains Amy Wynn, AMP Executive Director. “Yet guests will discover something new each time.”
Later dates in the series include classical and tango pianist Maria Centola on March 22; and the jazz, soul, and blues pianist T.J. Thompson on April 26.
The mural gallery at AMP includes a five-story mural and three viewing levels, which creates a unique, resonant space for listening to music while taking in the art.
“People can find comfy nooks or sit in the gallery to mingle over a drink or just listen, taking in the mural from different perspectives,” said Wynn in the press release. “It’s the fusion of art and music that makes the piano series a very special way to start the weekend.”
