Fremont man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, kidnapping with intent to rape

FREMONT – A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of hitting and sexually assaulting a person Monday evening in Fremont, police said.

The incident happened around 9:10 p.m. at Fremont Boulevard and Eggers Drive, according to the Fremont Police Department.

The female victim told officers she was walking by herself when the suspect approached her from behind and pulled her to the ground. He then hit her several times and sexually assaulted her, police said.

Community members came to the victim’s aid and held the suspect down until officers arrived.

The suspect – identified by police as Fremont resident Marvin Velasquez – was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges of kidnapping with intent to rape, sexual penetration with a foreign object, assault with a deadly weapon by force likely to produce great bodily injury, and battery with serious bodily injury, according to police.

The victim and suspect did not know each other, police said.

Detectives with FPD’s Crimes Against Persons Unit are investigating the incident.
