What is the role of the U.S. Senate?
Is it to pass laws regulating every part of our lives and the economy?
I say, No!
I’m running to represent you the U.S. Senate as a Libertarian.
If elected, I expect to say No a lot.
After all, I do believe in the individual’s right to live life in whatever manner chosen, so long as he/she/they are peaceful allowing others the same right to live as they choose.
Members of the Libertarian Party sign this statement: “I hereby certify that I do not believe in or advocate the initiation of force as a means of achieving political or social goals.”
I signed this statement and will not stray from these principles.
As a senator in Washington, D.C., I shall keep in mind two critical questions in mind.
First: Is the law constitutional?
Does it fall within the enumerated Powers of Article I, Section 8 or not?
So often bills are not within the powers of Congress as written in the U.S. Constitution. Congress has gotten into the bad habit of passing laws not within it’s power and failing to pass laws within it’s power allowing the president, a cabinet member or the head of an agency to proceed without congressional debate and approval.
This is a serious abdication of responsibility by both the Senate and the House.
Why does Congress permit the president to send troops all over the world without congressional action? Will they lose the next election if they declare war against Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine? Or against Hamas in Gaza?
They know Americans will not stand for declarations of war making headlines across the country. Such a declaration is a sure way to lose the next election. So, there is no debate and no Declarations of War.
Not since WW II.
Korea and Vietnam were undeclared wars and this continues today.
American troops are stationed all over the globe while Congress does nothing.
America’s young men and women risking their lives while Congress provides no input on what they’re supposed to be doing.
Can’t blame your congressman or woman since they did nothing!
“It was someone else, not me,” they say when they go home to campaign for re-election. “Blame the president or the Deptartment of Defense.”
It is no wonder Americans have come to see the president as the beginning and end of our government.
Presidents don’t speak up to correct this fallacy putting the blame on Congress. But that would not feed a president’s ego.
The second question I will ask myself as a senator is: How does this bill impact the state of California?
It would be nice if California put individual rights at the top of it’s goals so my goals would truly be in line with the state of California.
But for now, all I need to do to protect the state of California is remember how many laws California has and vote against laws in conflict with California law.
After all, our elected representatives in Sacramento are so much wiser than those representatives and senators from other states. Our laws are better than any law written by someone from Florida, for instance.
