After continued warm weather and heavy snow, the town of Avon has elected to close the Nottingham Lake ice rink for the season. Recent warm weather and heavy snow have compromised the ice surface making it unsafe for further use.
As the ice sheet was being cleared from the most recent snowstorm, the Public Operations division reported several challenges driving maintenance equipment on and off the ice.
“Although we are disappointed that we had to close the ice rink for the season, the safety of our staff and our community is our top priority,” said Michael Labagh, Avon’s recreation director. The ice rink was open from Jan. 9 to Feb. 8, totaling 18 days of operation due to challenging weather conditions.
“The Recreation Department would like to thank the community for their support and the staff for their hard work keeping the ice rink open as long as possible,” Labagh said.
