WATERBURY – Sandra A. Chernesky, age 79, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Feb. 9, 2024, at Saint Mary’s Hospital.
Sandy was born April 23, 1944 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Victor and Alma (Squires) Chernesky. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School. Before her retirement, Sandra had worked in the pension and benefits department for the City of Waterbury; she had also worked at the former Worth’s department store in Waterbury.
Sandra enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Gina (Neil) Hendrix of Waterloo, N.Y.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces Dawn (Brian) Kitney, Roseann Chernesky, Michelle Chernesky; nephews Brian (Shaylene) Fitzgerald, Victor (Johanna) Chernesky; great-nieces and -nephews and a great-great-nephew; her brother-in-law Edward Fitzerald; as well as her close friends Tina and Bonnie.
She was predeceased by a brother William Chernesky, a sister Ethel M. Fitzgerald, and niece Casey Sanchez.
Funeral services for Sandy will be on Friday, Feb. 16, at 9:15 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
