Firefighters were called into action to rescue two stranded cockerpoo dogs which had gone missing overnight.
At 9.06am today (Tuesday, February 13) a crew from Slade Park Fire Station and a 4x4 vehicle responded to reports of dogs trapped in a slurry pit in Grenoble Road in Littlemore.
The fire service’s rescue tender was deployed by the officers who responded, and both dogs were successfully reunited with their owner.
It is understood the dogs went missing from Littlemore on Monday.
A friend of the owner, who asked not to be named, described it as a "community effort in supporting animal welfare".
She added: "Their owner looked night and day for her two dogs to no avail.
"At around 9am this morning a Thames Water worker at Oxford sewage treatment works heard dogs barking, and upon searching for the location of the barks, two small mud covered dogs were found in the middle of the lagoon.
"They where very scared, dirty and cold.
"After some time the workers called 999 and requested the help of the fire and rescue service."
She described more than 10 firefighters helping out as an inflatable pathway was used to retrieve the dogs.
Flooding in the last week has resulted in treacherous conditions in Oxford and around the county.
This morning, Oxford City Council closed Grandpont Towpath due to the river level rising over the walkways.
