Dozens of pro-Palestinian supporters expected to speak at Raleigh City Council meeting Tuesday
More than 100 residents will speak during Tuesday’s Raleigh City Council meeting.
It is the first Raleigh City Council meeting since Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin said the council would not adopt a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
Pro-Palestinian supporters have asked the council to adopt a ceasefire for months since Israel declared war on Hamas.
The war started after Hamas militants attacked Israel’s southern border, killing 1,200 people on Oct. 7.
In the four months since the war’s start, more than 28,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
Many people scheduled to speak Tuesday participated in a Feb. 6 protest at a Durham City Council meeting. During last week’s protest, many broke out in songs calling for a ceasefire and demanding the United States stop providing military aid to Israel.
Public comment for the Raleigh meeting starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
