WRAL Weather Alert Day: Heavy rain, wind damage, isolated flooding possible Monday ⛈️

It's going to be a messy Monday, with much of the state under a Level 1 risk for severe weather. WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said we'll see stronger storms arriving in the afternoon.

Monday and the first half of Tuesday fall under WRAL Weather Alert Day criteria due to heavy rain, possible flooding and strong winds.

It's going to be a messy Monday, with much of the state under a Level 1 risk for severe weather. The biggest threats will be isolated flooding south of the Triangle and a possibility of wind damage.

According to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, we'll see stronger storms and heavy rain arriving in the afternoon. Damaging winds and localized flooding will be possible Monday, especially in the late afternoon into the evening and potentially overnight.

"Rain will be heaviest in our southern counties," Gardner said. "We're waiting on that front to move northward."

  • Monday: WRAL Weather Alert Day: Rain and isolated flooding possible. Highs in the low 60s.
  • Tuesday: Mostly dry with a high around 60 degrees.
  • Wednesday: Highs in the upper 50s. No rain in the forecast.

Isolated wind damage will be possible with rain totaling 1 to 2 inches. Localized flooding is possible in our southern counties. It will stay mild, though, with highs in the low 60s.

The potential for more dangerous storms is in South Carolina.

The WRAL Weather Alert Day is extended into Tuesday, when a wind advisory goes in effect at 3 a.m. and expires at noon. Wind gusts up to 45 mph will be possible Tuesday morning, which could lead to wind damage and power outages.

Looking ahead

We'll return to the 50s by Tuesday afternoon and Valentine's Day. The weather looks great for Wednesday, with a lot of sunshine, but it will be chilly into the evening.

Valentine's Day will be sunny and pleasant with a high of 58.

The next chance for showers comes on Saturday, but rain chances are small.

  • It's the 10 year anniversary of the snow storm called the Snowpocalypse that took place Feb.12-13, 2014. The snow storm became a meme fest for the Triangle.
