CM Nitish Kumar, MLAs arrive in assembly ahead of Bihar floor test

This test will determine the stability and legitimacy of the newly formed state government.

Ahead of the crucial trust vote, Bihar assembly members have met with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, RJD leader, and former deputy Tejashwi Yadav. It is planned for the floor test to begin at approximately 12:00 pm.

With support from the BJP-led NDA, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be put to the test in the Assembly’s floor. After splitting from Lalu Yadav’s RJD on January 28 and taking the oath of office as chief minister for a record ninth time, Kumar joined the NDA again.

High-stakes political drama erupted in Patna earlier at midnight, following accusations by Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) that police were attempting to break into Tejashwi’s home on any pretext and orchestrate untoward incidents against party MLAs.

The BJP refuted the RJD’s claim by saying that the police were there to carry out their duties and claimed that they were taking action in response to the kidnapping report.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain gave warning to Bihar former CM Tejashwi Yadav that the police will come if he kidnaps the MLAs and any MLA’s relative files a complaint. It is certain that the police will act if Yadav keeps any MLA bound in your home.

Earlier, the death sentence for the jailed ex-Indian Navy men was commuted to an extended prison term after diplomatic talks between Qatar and India. The prison term was also decreased after relatives of the jailed ex-Indian Navy men approached the Ministry of External Affairs, which further made use of all diplomatic channels and legal assistance to bring them back.

Out of the total 8 ex-Indian Navy men were imprisoned in Qatar in October 2022 after being accused of allegedly spying on a submarine programme. The Dahra Global case saw a major development last year when the court dropped the death sentence of the Indian nationals after intervention by the Ministry of External affairs. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finished jawan (soldiers), and kisan (farmers) in his ten years of tenure. Addressing a rally in Punjab’s Ludhiana, Kharge slammed the Modi government and said the Centre suspended three farm laws but the notification to repeal them has not come yet.

Kharge, in a scathing attack, said the Modi government suspended the three farm laws to end the protest. He added that if the Centre fails to repeal the farm laws, the Congress will remove these laws if voted to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the Punjab Congress Workers Convention, Kharge hit out at the Centre over the situation of farmers and soldiers in the country. The Congress chief said that Punjab was the only state in the country where late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s slogan Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan fits best. Kharge further added saying Punjab has given the country both kisan and jawan but it is unfortunate that the Modi government has finished them both.

Meanwhile, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on February 13 to press several demands.

The Haryana Police has released a traffic advisory asking people to stay off the state’s key roads unless necessary.

Section 144 has been enforced in Panchkula to maintain law and order before the demonstration.

In light of the farmers’ march, the Delhi Police is likewise extremely vigilant, and strict security is in place throughout Delhi’s entire border.

The purpose of the march, according to the farmers’ organisations Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, is to put pressure on the Central government to abide by several requests, chief among them being the passing of legislation guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

The Delhi Police have begun preparations and have stationed large cranes and containers at the borders to stop farmers from Punjab and Haryana from reaching the Delhi border.
