Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.8%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Monday.

Shares of MRF Ltd.(up 4.91 per cent), Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(up 2.05 per cent), Tube Investments of India Ltd.(up 1.1 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.86 per cent) and Eicher Motors Ltd.(up 0.81 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 13.94 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 5.65 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 4.51 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(down 4.11 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 1.22 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.8 per cent down at 19419.6.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 166.46 points at 21616.05, while the BSE Sensex stood down 523.0 points at 71072.49.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 14 ended in the green, while 30 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, NHPC, JP Power and Zomato were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Keynote Financial, Orient Press, Shanti Overseas(Ind, JSW Holdings and Mittal Life Style hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Nahar Poly Film, Davangere Sugar, Flair Writing Indust, Aptech and Camlin Fine Sc hit their fresh 52-week lows.
