The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) finalized a contract on Sunday with the German firm LEONARDO, undertaking three initiatives at Kuwait International Airport with a total investment of KD eight million (approximately USD 25.9 million). These initiatives encompass the setup, operation, and delivery of training, alongside warranty, maintenance, and technical support services at the airport. Emad Al-Jalawi, the Acting Director General of DGCA, communicated to KUNA the objective of these projects is to implement a weather data system at Kuwait International Airport to enhance the security and safety of air navigation significantly.
Furthermore, Saad Al-Otaibi, DGCA’s Deputy Director General for Planning and Projects Affairs, elaborated to KUNA on the components of the project, which include a wind speed measurement system and an air turbulence detection system for the final approach phase of landing. Al-Otaibi clarified that the initiatives comprise an early warning system for wind shear, a turbulence detection system, and a Doppler radar system, highlighting the comprehensive approach to improving navigational safety at the airport.
