NATURE ON THE MOVE: On Mondays December 18, January 15 and 29, and February 12 and 26 at 10:30 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding its bi-weekly Nature on the Move walks. These walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators and will take place on the NYS DEC Camp Saratoga Trails. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature in the winter. They are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The group usually covers about 1.5 miles of trail. Nature on the Move happens every other week, year-round. If there is snow, the program will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. EAGLE WATCH: At Moreau Lake State Park, 2pm. Join a Park Educator on a convoy-style journey along the Hudson River to try to spot our local Bald Eagles. We will be getting in and out of vehicles at a few locations and, with a little luck, viewing the eagles through binoculars and a scope so make sure to bring your hat and gloves! If you have binoculars bring them, we do have a couple of pairs to pass around as well. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. To reserve your spot call 518-793-0511.

BUTTON CLUB MEETING: The Half Moon Button Club will meet on February 12th, at the Bethlehem Public Library, 451 Delaware Avenue, Delmar. HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. A guided 2.4 mile hike with a park educator. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and waterproof boots. Bring microspikes if you have them, we have snowshoes and microspikes to rent at the office if you need them. The cost is $5
per adult, payable by cash or check at the office upon your arrival. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance, to reserve your spot, call the office at 518-793-0511.

MAGICIANS’ MEETING: The local group of The Society of American Magicians, Assembly #24, meets at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of the month at the S. W. Pitts Hose Co. of Latham, 226 Old Loudon Road, Latham. We welcome all persons, age 16 and older, with any

WHOLENESS CLASSES: Presented by “New Thought New York.” 7 Tuesdays beginning January 23. During this 7-week class, students will explore the interrelationship between Spirit, Mind, and Body. BINGO: Knights of Columbus #246 hosts Bingo at the KOC Hall located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, every Wednesday evening. DRAWING CLASS: The Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway, will be holding a basic drawing instruction class beginning onFebruary 15 from 6-7:30 PM. This class will be held weekly on Thursdays until April 11. The purpose of the class is to teach basic drawing techniques through the exploration of fundamentals. No experience is necessary. This is for adults and teens aged 15 and over. A materials list will be provided at the first class. Space is limited, so please register at 518-882-6385.

NATURE WALK: The partnership between Saratoga PLAN and Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park continues with winter nature walks at Saratoga PLAN’s Bog Meadow Preserve. These walks will take place on Thursdays from January 11 to February 15, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. People can register for one, two, or all six of the walks. Participants will learn about the changes that winter brings to the wetlands of the Bog Meadow Preserve with a weekly focus on a different theme. On January 11 and February 1, the focus will be on winter animal adaptations and identification. On January 18 and February 8, the focus will be on learning to identify trees in the winter. The final theme for January 25 and February 15 will be winter animal tracking. The walks have been developed and will be led by Environmental Education and Conservation Interns who were hired through a grant of the Land Trust Alliance’s New York State Conservation Partnership Program. If the trails are snow-covered, the walks will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. Registration is strongly encouraged as winter parking at the trailhead is more limited than at other times of the year. KNEE-HIGH NATURALISTS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Geared toward children aged 2-5, (siblings welcome) Knee-high Naturalist is a fun introduction to nature. We meet in the Nature Center where we begin by reading a book or two and then take a short walk together outdoors, keeping our eyes open for animal tracks, shells, feathers and other signs of the natural world around us. Dress for the weather. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in

TAVERN NIGHT: On February 15 at 6 pm, Brookside Museum is hosting an immersive evening of food, music, and stories. The event, “A Night at Aldridge House: An Evening Tavern Experience,” will encourage participants to step back into the late 18th century. Opening in 1792, the building that now houses the museum was a hotel that hosted guests to Ballston Spa for over 50 years. Ticket holders will enjoy a night of hearty stew, crusty bread, refreshing cider, and jaunty music. In the spirit of the upcoming holidays, we will hear about George Washington’s visits to our area from local author John Oliver, who will also discuss a secret real estate mission that led our first president to the region. Meals will be served by historical interpreters in 18th century clothing. Tickets are $25 per person, $20 for SCHC members. Tickets are limited and pre-registration is required by going to www.BrooksideMuseum.org. February 16 is the snow date for this event.

CHESS AND CHECKERS CLUB: Galway Public Library, 2112 East St. Galway, offers a Chess and Checkers Club on the third Thursday of each month from 4:00 to 5:00 for ages 9-14. More information about all library programs may be found at www.galwaypubliclibrary.org.

MEDIA/BOOK SALE: The Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway, will be holding a sale of used DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks along with used children and teen books on February 16 from 1:30-5:30 pm in the program room. Your monetary donation fills your bag!

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park. 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. This event does not have sign ups, please come if you can. We meet at the nature center parking lot. Class fees waived with food donations. For any questions call 518-793-0511.

ENSEMBLE CONNECT CONCERT: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 in the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College. Free and open to the public; no tickets required. This concert is the culmination of the February 2024 Ensemble Connect fellowship residency.

HERITAGE HUNTERS MEETING: Heritage Hunters will meet on Saturday, February 17th, at 1 pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St. in Schuylerville. Daniel Bradt will present the program, “An Archaeological Look at the Saratoga and Schenectady Railroad.” The railroad was only the 2nd built in the state and began operating in 1832. Portions of it have been the subject of archaeological digs in recent years. Dan has assisted in the digs and has worked on several other archaeology projects in Saratoga County. Public is welcome. SISTERS IN CRIME MONTHLY MEETING: Elena Hartwell Taylor is the author of the Eddie Shoes Mysteries about a mother/daughter crime fighting duo. She also works as a developmental editor and has written a guidebook on writing. LYME DISEASE STUDY GROUP: On Saturday, February 17 from 1 to 4 PM the Lyme Disease Study Group will meet in the Community Room of the Greenwich Free Library 148 Main St. Greenwich. Those wishing to participate are asked to read Bitten: The Secret History of Lyme Disease and Biological Weapons by Kris Newby and to watch the film Under Our Skin. Thus far the Study Group has discussed key-points in Bitten and begun investigating Biosafety Level 4 laboratories, the 1969 Congressional Hearings on chemical and biological warfare, homeopathic approaches to recovery from “Lyme” co-infections, the “8-Ball” at Ft. Detrick and other related concerns.

BEGINNER BIRD WALK: At Moreau State Lake Park, 8:30am. Calling all beginner birders, join us on a guided hike to search for birds! Feel free to bring binoculars. The hike will be a start and stop walk for less than two miles. The cost is $5 for adults (18+) and $1 per child, payable by cash or check at the office upon your arrival. CREEK WALK: Take a hike at 10am with Wilton Wildlife educators to learn new information about the sights and sounds of your favorite Saratoga PLAN trails. Learn about the amazing ecology of a wetland and a forest habitat in the deep winter. You are bound to discover amazing things! BEGINNER CROSS COUNTRY SKI AND SNOWSHOE: Are you looking to try a new recreational activity this winter season but don’t know where to start? Join Wilton Wildlife Educators as they give you tips and tricks on how to cross-country ski and snowshoe, so you can feel comfortable going out on the trails on your own! This program will take place on January 13, 14, 27, 28 and February 19 at 9:00 am. Adult and child sizes are available, meaning the whole family can enjoy the winter trails at Wilton Wildlife. This program will be on cross-country skis and snowshoes, weather permitting. Thanks to the Common Roots Foundation, there is no charge for people to use the rentals when registered and participating in one of Wilton Wildlife’s scheduled programs. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda at for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. and earlier for special schedules. HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING: The Town of Greenfield Historical Society will meet on Tuesday February 20, 2024 at 25 Wilton Road, Greenfield Center at 7 pm. We will be hosting “An Evening with Elizabeth Conant” as she takes us down a sentimental journey as a musician, teacher, and writer living in Greenfield. All are welcome to attend. If bad weather, we will need to cancel.

ANIMAL TRACKING: What better time to learn about animal tracks than after a snowfall? Take a walk along Camp Saratoga in hunt for wild animal tracks and learn which species they are! CAMPFIRE CHAT: How does maple sap turn into the delicious maple syrup on your pancakes? Join Wilton Wildlife educators around the campfire at 10am to discuss the maple sugaring process!

PRISM WINTER PEST TRAINING PART 1: Interested in learning more about the forest and winter pests that might be found? ICE FISHING CLINIC: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Get out of the house and onto the ice at MLSP. Join us and learn how to ice fish! Pack a mug because the Friends of MLSP will be serving hot chocolate and tending the fires of the Warming Hut so you can warm up between catches. Dress very warmly! If conditions don’t allow for ice fishing, we will offer another weather-appropriate program. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. The

ANIMAL TRACKING: 10am at Wilton Wildlife Preserve. How do animals survive the chilly winter in upstate New York? Come on this walk to learn about different animals and how they camouflage, eat, and stay warm during the cold months.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH TAXIDERMY: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. John Edmonstone was born an enslaved individual, died a freed man and along the way taught bird taxidermy to none other than Charles Darwin. We will learn about his remarkable life and try our hand at ‘taxidermy’- stuffing upcycled plush toy animals that you get to take home. All materials provided. WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park. 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. MOONLIGHT HIKE: Are you interested in traversing the trails of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at night? View nature in a new light, or lack thereof, as you walk the trails under the full moon. An unforgettable experience for all ages! The February Moonlight Hike is scheduled for February 24 at 5:30 pm. The walk will take place on the trails of Camp Saratoga North on Scout Road in the Town of Wilton. If there is snow, the program will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. FULL MOON HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 5:30pm. Join a Park Educator on a beginner hike around Moreau Lake. If the clouds cooperate we’ll get to enjoy the splendor of the moon rising above the mountains! This hike is family friendly and well-behaved dogs on a 6 foot or
shorter leash are welcome. Dress for the weather and bring microspikes or snowshoes; there are limited numbers of microspikes to borrow and snowshoes to rent if weather-appropriate- let us know if you need either when you sign up. NATURE ON THE MOVE: On Mondays December 18, January 15 and 29, and February 12 and 26 at 10:30 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding its bi-weekly Nature on the Move walks. These walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators and will take place on the NYS DEC Camp Saratoga Trails. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature in the winter. They are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels.
The group usually covers about 1.5 miles of trail. Nature on the Move happens every other week, year-round. If there is snow, the program will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. AFTER THE FIRE MEETING: After the Fire’s monthly meeting will be February 27 at 7 pm at Eagle Matt Lee Firehouse on Washington St. in Ballston Spa. After the Fire is a non-profit organization that helps Saratoga County residents who have suffered a loss due to fire. Families are provided with gift cards, a night’s stay at a participating hotel/motel, Red Cross referral, informational material, emotional support, etc. Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month. ARTIST JAM: The second Friday of each month from 4-6 pm at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway. Artist Jam is a social event for teen and adult artists in the community to get together and enjoy a relaxing workspace. Whether you’re looking to meet fellow creators or need an excuse to finish your latest project, this is the place for you! Please bring your own art supplies and a project to do. All forms of artistic media are welcome. This is a no-judgment zone, so no prior artistic experience is required to participate. MOONLIGHT HIKE: Are you interested in traversing the trails of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at night? View nature in a new light, or lack thereof, as you walk the trails under the full moon. An unforgettable experience for all ages! The February Moonlight Hike is scheduled for February 24 at 5:30 pm. The walk will take place on the trails of Camp Saratoga North on Scout Road in the Town of Wilton. If there is snow, the program will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. Registration is required at least one business day in advance.
