The League of Women Voters Greeley-Weld County will host an informational meeting on special districts in Weld County this week.
The League will host “Weld County Special Districts: What You Need to Know” from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 virtually. Christina Manthey, Fayre Ruszcyzyk and John Henderson of the League of Women Voters Jefferson County, who have done extensive research on special districts, will discuss the issues surrounding them.
Weld County has more metropolitan districts than any other county in the state, according to a League news release.
For the tax year ending Dec. 31, 2022, the Weld County treasurer received about $990 million in taxes. Weld County kept $187 million for its own use, the release states. The remaining money was collected for towns, cities, Aims Community College, school districts and special districts.
“Come find out more about Special Districts and why the League thinks there may be issues the Leagues needs to address,” the League wrote.
