WATERBURY – Adeline (Rosa) Costa, age 100, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the comfort of her home on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, on what would have been her 66th wedding anniversary. She was the devoted wife of the late Rosario Costa.
Born on Dec. 22, 1923, Adeline was the daughter of the late Vito Rosa and the late Maria Carmella (Zaccagnino) (Rosa) Merenda. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and went to work as a young girl to help support her family during World War II.
She worked for several local manufacturing companies and as an administrative assistant for Scovill for more than 15 years before she became a devoted wife and mother.
Adeline is survived by her son, Joseph V. Costa and his partner Robin Staffier of Waterbury; her daughter, Josephine “Josie” Costa Weller and her husband Mark Weller of Greenwich; and her beloved grandsons Zachary Weller and his wife Sara, of Wyoming, and Matthew Weller of Greenwich.
She also leaves her brother Anthony Rosa of Danvers, Mass.; as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband Rosario, Adeline was predeceased by her brother Carlo Rosa, and her sisters Maria Carmella “Molly” Kenney and Beatrice Merenda.
Adeline’s family would like to thank Dr. John Setaro and Dr. Marcus Mayus, as well as Adeline’s caregivers Salomey, Maria, and Nancy, for their outstanding and compassionate care shown to their mom, with special thanks to Robin who was always there for her.
Adeline’s funeral will be on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for a Mass at noon. Calling hours will be on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Adeline’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
