BOOK Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus I’m in Colombia at the moment, staying with my girlfriend’s family in Bogota. My Spanish is a bit rusty so I’m reading everything to brush it up. I found a copy of Los Hombres son de Marte, Las Mujeres son de Venus, and despite it being written nearly 20 years ago, I have to say John Gray’s classic book about the sexes is pretty good. Although with my rudimentary Spanish maybe I’m just not getting it all, and it’s horribly out of date.
RADIO The NTS Breakfast Show I can be a little anti-music sometimes, in that I’ll happily listen to white noise or rain sounds. But I do love The NTS Breakfast Show. NTS is a radio station in London and the morning show is a mix of ambient and electronica, with these presenters who might be just out of bed, or might be a little high, but everything is just so low-stimulation that after a while you forget it’s even on, and that’s what I like to listen to at the moment.
STREAMING: Bashar I’ve recently got quite into intergalactic beings. No, seriously. There are a number of people on the planet who channel beings from other dimensions and luckily for me, and possibly you, they all seem to have fairly up-to-date YouTube channels. It’s good shit.
Initially I was very sceptical and I still am a bit, but whatever, it’s entertaining for me. The ‘beings’ don’t really talk about the future but they explain life in ways that resonate with me. And of course being intergalactic, they don’t have names like John or Claire. My favourite at the moment is a guy called Bashar.
EVENT Club Loosen Club Loosen is a sober rave event that was started last year in Dublin by a guy called Paul Walsh. Club Loosen is doing this slightly uncomfortable thing of dancing with a bunch of friends and strangers to amazing music while sober. And it’s deeply empowering. I can’t recommend it enough.
