Woman fatally struck by train in Encinitas
The death marks at least the sixth fatal train strike this year, with four others occurring in January and two more reported about a week ago
A woman died after being struck by a train in Encinitas Saturday morning, sheriff’s officials said.
The collision happened just before 8 a.m. on the tracks near Chesterfield Drive and San Elijo Avenue, sheriff’s Sgt. Jason King said in a news release. Deputies determined the woman had been struck by a southbound North County Transit District Coaster train.
The sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash. The woman’s name will be released by the county Medical Examiner’s Office after her family is notified. The office will also determine the cause and manner of the woman’s death.

The Encinitas crash was at least the sixth fatal train strike this year. Four deaths occurred in the span of five days in January, and two more were reported about a week ago.
