Mohun Bagan SG vs Hyderabad FC highlights, MBSG 2-0 HFC, ISL 2023-24: Thapa, Cummings goals bring Mariners back to winning ways

Manvir has a brilliant chance to score Mohun Bagan’s third as he is one-on-one with Gurmeet. He goes low with his shot but Gurmeet shows good reflexes to make the save.

Kiyan Nassiri makes a darting run down the right flank and finds Suhail with a cutback. Suhail goes for a first-time shot but sees his effort blocked as the ball goes out for a Mohun Bagan corner. 

Manvir makes a run into the box from the right, cuts in and goes for a grounded effort, but Gurmeet does well to make the save. 

Cummings goes down right at the edge of the box but it is Hyderabad, which gets the freekick after the Australian is flagged offside.

As the match halts for its last drinks break, it looks like Mohun Bagan has bagged the three points by the looks of it. Hyderabad is creating the occasional chance but nowhere near the quality it was producing in the first-half. 

Vanlalrinchhana opens the face of his boot and shoots at goal but it is a weak one and straight to Kaith. 

Kiyan Nassiri goes for a shot from the inside of the box but sends the ball straight to Gurmeet.

Manvir goes for a cutback from the left and the ball falls to Kauko, who goes for a first-time shot. It is not the best of contacts as the Finland international ends up slicing the ball. 

Chothe shows good feet to get past his marker on the right flank. He goes for a cross at the far-post but Thapa is there to intercept the cross and clear the danger. 

MBSG sub: IN- Kauko OUT- Sahal

Kauko comes on the pitch amidst a loud cheer from the Mohun Bagan faithful. 

Sahal goes for goal from the left side of the Hyderabad box but puts too much power on it, as the ball goes out of play. 

Double save- Petratos cuts in and goes for a curler from the left side of the box. Gurmeet does well to palm the ball away but the danger remains as Kiyan gets to the rebound and goes for a shot. But Gurmeet matches it with another save at his near-post. 

Manvir shows good movement to get past Sajad and go for the cutback, with the hope of finding Cummings. But the cross is intercepted and the ball is cleared by Hyderabad. 

Sahal finds Petratos with a defence-splitting through ball. The Australian goes for goal from the edge of the Hyderabad box and misses the target by a whisker. 

Petratos finds Kiyan on the right flank as the latter makes an inward run and go for the cut-back. But Rabeeh does well to block the cross. 

Mohun Bagan carrying on its first-half momentum in the early minutes of the second-half. The Hyderabad defence is under pressure already as the Mariners search for a third.

20-year-old Dippendu Biswas makes his Mohun Bagan debut across all competitions. A big night for the youngster.

Manvir shows his class as he spots Cummings inside the box and finds him with a brilliant cutback. Once the ball came to him, Cummings keeps his composure to guide the ball into the far-corner of the net with a first-time finish. 

A nervy moment for Hyderabad as it could not clear the ball, but Gurmeet off his line. Cummings had the chance to put the ball inside the net but cannot get a good touch.

Sahal surprises everyone by going for a shot from an ambitious distance. The powerful looked dangerous initially, but in the end, it is quite some distance from hitting the target. 

Jason Cummings goes for a shot but the effort is straight at Gurmeet. 

Saji comes close to scoring the equalizer with a header from the Hyderabad corner. 

Petratos goes for a shot from the edge of the Hyderabad box and sees his effort whistle past the post. He had all the time to take his shot, when he should have been closed down sooner. 

Chothe almost finds Sunny with a brilliant cross from the right but Kaith reads the danger and comes off his line to collect the ball. 

Subhasish finds Manvir with a defence-splitting pass as the latter makes his way into the Hyderabad box from the left. Manvir tries to find Cummings with a cutback but the Hyderabad defence does well to clear the ball. 

MBSG sub: IN- Kiyan OUT- Amandeep

Ramhlunchhunga uses pace to get past his marker and take a shot from the edge of the Mariners box. The shot has power but lacks direction. 

Sahal does well to make his way inside the box and go for the cutback, but Petratos and Cummins are all in the same line, which results in them missing the ball. In the end, Hyderabad FC has enough time to clear the ball. 

Jason Cummings goes for a shot from distance but it does not have enough power to trouble Gurmeet, who collects comfortably. 

Ramhlunchhunga nutmegs Glan Martins and makes his way inside the Mohun Bagan box. He goes for a shot, which Kaith saves. There is a rebound, which almost falls to Rabeeh, who cannot get to the ball in time. 

Jason Cummings brings down the ball with expert control as he is played a long ball from the middle of the park from Subhasish. He cuts back to Manvir, who cannot connect with his shot and Hyderabad FC clears the danger. 

Ramhlunchhunga shows goof feet inside the Mariners box to dance past a couple of defenders but the shot does not come and the home team finally crowds him out and clears the ball to safety. All that hard work results in nothing. 

With an early goal, the Mariners are the favourite to build on it and take the game away, especially against this out-of-form Hyderabad FC team. They also have a cracking home support at their disposal. 

Another trademark delivery from Petratos as he goes low from the corner. The ball is flicked towards goal at the near-post and Hyderabad FC cannot clear the ball. Thapa, in the right place at the right time, lashes the ball in from close distance. 

Hyderabad FC loses the ball as Manvir launches a counter-attack. He spreads the ball to Petratos, who makes his way inside the box and dinks the ball to Cummings at the far-post. But the ball is cleared just in time. 

Amandeep and Sajad with a clash of heads as both went for the ball. It is a painful one as medical teams of both teams rush on the pitch. But fortunately, both players look to be fine and should be able to continue. 

Zothanpuia gives the ball straight to Petratos in the middle of the park. Noticing Gurmeet is off his line, the Asutralian goes for goal but nothing comes off it. The effort is not on target. 

As expected, it is Mohun Bagan putting all the pressure on Hyderabad FC in the opening minutes. Hyderabad has not been able to see much of the ball till now. 

The Mariners start strong as Cummings goes for a shot from distance. But the effort is blocked and the ball goes out for a corner.

The reigning Indian Super League (ISL) champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be hosting bottom club Hyderabad FC in a league fixtures of ISL 2023-24 at its home in the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. 

The Hyderabad challenge comes after Mohun Bagan had drew against eternal rivals East Bengal in its last an ISL match. 

The host will be looking to switch over to the continental competition relying on the efficiency of its attack and the doggedness of its defence which is reflected in its performance in the last five matches where it scored 14 goals and conceded just three while keeping two clean sheets. 

Mohun Bagan, currently sitting 5th with 20 points in 11 matches, is eager to bounce back after four games without a win. The Kolkata giants has been inconsistent this season, showcasing moments of brilliance but also struggling to find rhythm. Coach Antonio Habas, who replaced recently sacked Juan Ferrando, will be hoping for a strong performance in front of the home fans. 

Hyderabad FC, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the table with a mere 4 points from 13 matches. Its season has been plagued by poor form, injuries, managerial changes and management issues. New boss Thangboi Singto has a massive task at hand, needing to instill confidence and find a winning formula quickly. 

With several players leaving the club in the January window after not receiving salaries for several months, it looks like an uphill battle for Hyderabad.
