Carnival festivities began in Porvorim on Friday which will continue over the next few days in Panaji, Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Morjim

Carnival 2024 kicked off on the Service Road in Porvorim at the hands of Minister for Tourism, Rohan Khaunte in presence of MLA of Bicholim Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, MLA, Saligao, Kedar Naik, MLA, Mandrem, Jeet Arolkar, sarpanch of Penha De Franca, Swapnil Chodankar and sarpanch of Socorro Sonia Pednekar.
The parade was flagged off by Khaunte. “This year’s Carnaval promises to be nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the unique blend of traditions, creativity, and enjoyment. Festivities play a major role in ensuring that we preserve our culture, culture and tradition. As we talk about Goa beyond beaches we have started talking about ‘Regenerative Tourism’ under the theme of ‘Ekadasha Teerth’,” said Minister for Tourism Rohan Khaunte adding that the importance of promoting these festivities and traditions is important.
The street wore a festive look with colourful masks and other decoration. The stretch of 3.5 kms was cordoned off, and adequate seating arrangement was made for the public who could sit and enjoy the carnival parade.
“The entries kept flowing in till last minute and we accommodated as many,” said organising committee member, Ninil D’Souza. Arrangements for food and refreshments was made through stall allocation at no cost for residents of Porvorim thus promoting entrepreneurship in the satellite city.
All floats followed the float of King Momo. The highlight of this parade was an exclusive float on Ekadasha Teertha that potrayed 11 handpicked temples across Goa showcasing rich cultural heritage and the Spiritual Tourism circuit. Goa Police had a float too that was appreciated by all. It was interesting to see creativity and local talent at its best through large floats.
There were environmental themes like pollution free sea, green Goa among others. Social issues like drug free Goa were also seen as part of the parade. Every float had some message to share with people.
Carnival will be celebrated across cities of Panaji, Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Morjim. The curtain raiser in Porvorim saw local Goans along with tourists enthusiastic for the float parade.
