    What's the story

Have you ever experienced your skin peeling off? Our skin often serves as a resilient shield against the outside world, safeguarding us from environmental aggressors and maintaining our internal balance. Yet, despite its remarkable resilience, skin peeling remains a common and often perplexing occurrence for many individuals. From minor irritations to more severe conditions, the peeling may be caused by various reasons.

    Dry skin

Peeling and flaking of the skin is a symptom of dry skin/xerosis which is caused when the sebaceous glands and sweat glands generate less sweat and oil than usual. The likelihood of skin peeling is significantly higher in people with dry or sensitive skin. Consult a dermatologist before making any changes to your routine, especially before using new skincare products.

    Infections

    Infections

Another frequent reason for peeling skin is infection. Skin peeling can be the result of any kind of infection, although staphylococcus (staph) infections are the most common cause of this symptom. Athletes' foot, jock itches, and ringworms are examples of fungal skin infections that are associated with skin peeling. Peeling of the skin can also result from systemic illnesses like scarlet fever.

    Allergic reaction

    Allergic reaction

Numerous factors, such as a dry environment, cold weather, chlorine in swimming pools, skincare products that irritate or dry out the skin can cause dry skin on the face. Peeling of the skin can also result from seasonal allergies, food allergies, and medicinal allergies or side effects. Skin peeling, albeit less common, could indicate skin cancer, particularly after extended periods of unprotected sun exposure.

    Medical conditions

    Medical conditions

Skin peels, flakes, and thickens as a result of several chronic skin disorders. Peeling of the skin is particularly common in people with skin diseases such as rosacea, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, eczema (atopic dermatitis), and acne-prone skin. In order to prevent flare-ups of chronic skin disorders, it is crucial to manage all of their symptoms, including skin peeling.
