Art enthusiasts of all ages are in for a treat as Studio 07 Fine Art Academy presents its seventh annual painting exhibition, ‘Mythic Tapestry – A Global Odyssey’, at Sanskruti Bhavan in Panaji. The exhibition will be inaugurated on February 11, at the hands of minister for art and culture Govind Gaude.
Apeksha Nadkarni, the driving force behind the exhibition, boasts significant experience in teaching art to enthusiasts of all ages, from four to over 60 years old. With a roster of over 300 trained students and five successful shows, Nadkarni has become a sought-after figure in the art education scene. Her previous exhibitions, such as ‘History of Art’, ‘Goan Greats – Field of Art’, ‘Folk Art’, and ‘Master Strokes’, have garnered appreciation from the art community in Goa.
The theme of ‘Mythic Tapestry’ led Nadkarni and her students to explore the rich tapestry of mythology from around the world, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries. The exhibition features independent interpretations of masterpieces by renowned artists such as Raja Ravi Varma, B. K. Sharma, Indra Varma, Raphael, Michelangelo, Jamini Roy, and others. Some students have also ventured into recreating Tanjore style paintings.
As a mentor, Nadkarni plays a pivotal role in guiding and motivating her students. “I emphasise on theme-based shows to expose students to different historical events, masterpieces, diverse folk traditions in visual art, and to connect with the core of world mythology, while honing their craftsmanship,” she says.
Nadkarni has instituted annual awards to recognise and honor outstanding works and students in the junior, senior, and general categories, acting as a source of inspiration for aspiring artists.
A total of 61 works created by 41 artists will be on display at the exhibition which is on till February 12.
Some of the notable works are ‘Lord Venkateshwara’ by Priya Singru, ‘Lord Narsimha’ by Saanvi Palyekar, ‘Goddess Kamakshi’ by Siya Mahambrey, ‘Vishwaroop Darshan’ by Shreeya Aithal, ‘Ram Darbar’ by Laxmi Juttur, ‘Lord Vishnu & Goddess Laxmi on Sheshnag’ by Dhruv Narvekar, and ‘Mekkah – Madina’ by Ifrah Jahan. Additionally, a large-sized canvas collectively painted by the Studio 07 Fine Art Academy students serves as a symbolic representation of unity.
The show promises to be an engaging exploration of mythical magic on a global scale, inviting everyone to appreciate the diverse and creative world of art.
