Person killed by Amtrak passenger train in Durham, 142 people on board

A person was hit and killed Friday by an Amtrak passenger train with 142 passengers and crew members onboard.

No one on Amtrak train 80, traveling from Charlotte to New York, was injured.

According to the Durham Police Department, the incident occurred before 9:30 a.m. near the 3500 block of Hillsborough Road. The pedestrian died at the scene.

A spokesperson said Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.
