Hugh also made a second high profile public appearance in Dublin on Friday night when he thrilled young Irish theatre producer Luke Casserly by attending his production in the capital’s Peacock theatre.

And the Australian star made sure to meet Luke afterwards and even got to feel a piece of bog used in his play Distillation, which is produced in association with the Abbey theatre and is being staged in the Peacock theatre.

“If it’s good enough for Wolverine,” raved the Abbey.

“Last night we were privileged to welcome Hugh Jackman to an intimate performance of the Irish bog landscape through memory and scent – thanks for joining us Hugh.”

Hugh spent some of his Summer holidays in Ireland in June 2022.

The star, who known for blockbuster roles in the X-Men series and The Prestige, sold out three shows in Dublin’s 3 Arena when he performed there in May 2019.

Last year, Hugh announced he had split from long-time wife Deborra-Lee Furness in September - after 27 years of marriage.

The former couple revealed to fans that they had separated “to pursue our individual growth”.

“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the couple said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition.”

The former couple signed the statement as ”'Deb and Hugh Jackman”, adding: “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”

The pair had tied the knot in 1996 after meeting on the set of Correlli in 1995.

During the course of their marriage, they adopted two children: son Oscar, 23, and daughter Ava, 18.
