Stock market update: Nifty Bank index falls 1.76%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Bank index closed on a negative note on Thursday.

Shares of State Bank of India(up 3.6 per cent), Bank of Baroda(up 3.46 per cent) and Punjab National Bank(up 0.33 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Au Small Finance Bank Ltd.(down 3.77 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(down 3.51 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd.(down 3.22 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(down 3.11 per cent) and IDFC First Bank Ltd.(down 2.59 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Bank index closed 1.76 per cent down at 45012.0.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 212.55 points at 21717.95, while the BSE Sensex stood down 723.57 points at 71428.43.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, JP Power, Vodafone Idea, Zomato and IOB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Garware Poly, GeeCee Ventures, TRF Ltd, Nupur Recyclers and S H Kelkar & Co. hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Stampede Cap(DVR), Astec Lifesc, UPL, Suraj Estate Develop and Latteys Industries hit their fresh 52-week lows.
