Victim had at least one ‘serious wound’ in neck
Arrest made after man dies in Kildare stabbing
A man who was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon in Kilcock, Co Kildare has been named locally.
The victim has been named locally as Jeffrey Jackson from Cedar Park in Leixlip.
A criminal who has multiple previous convictions for serious offences is in garda custody being questioned.
The fatal assault occurred at an apartment on School Street, Kilcock yesterday.
The arrested man, from Leixlip, Co Kildare, was in the apartment in Kilcock when gardai arrived at the scene.
Sources say the victim aged in his 50s was stabbed to death and had at least one “serious wound” to the neck.
The suspect previously served a lengthy jail sentence for drugs trafficking offences.
Gardai remained at the scene on School Street this morning as a forensic examination continued.
The stabbing happened in a small apartment complex above some commercial premises and the library on the ground floor.
While School Street itself was open to traffic, gardai remained in the apartment building.
Local workers said the first sign that something had happened was when an ambulance and the gardai arrived yesterday afternoon.
It is understood that gardaí are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.
A garda family liaison officer has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.
State pathologist Sally Anne Collis is due to carry out a post-mortem examination on Friday morning at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

Local councillor Brendan Weld of Kildare County Council said: “It’s a shock to the people of Kilcock and surrounding areas and we’d be appalled by what’s happened.”
Authorities are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of School Street between 3-4pm and who may have noticed something, to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street around the time of the fatal incident are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
