Irish aircraft owners suing insurers over jets stuck in Russia say they won’t get a fair hearing in Moscow

Lessors taking legal action in London over planes trapped in Russia are resisting insurers’ bid to get case heard in the Russian capital

Lawyers for the world’s largest aircraft lessor, Dublin-based AerCap, have insisted there is “not the slightest prospect” that a legal case related to billions of US dollars worth of aircraft could be “properly and fairly” tried in the Russian courts.

A hearing began in London on Wednesday into efforts by insurers and reinsurance companies including Lloyds, Axa, AIG and Allianz to have a case taken against them in London by lessors such as AerCap, SMBC Aviation, Carlyle Aviation Partners, Aircastle and Nordic Aviation Capital shifted to Moscow.
