Stock market update: Nifty Bank index falls 0.24%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Bank index closed on a negative note on Monday.

Shares of Punjab National Bank(up 3.6 per cent), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd.(up 3.07 per cent), Federal Bank Ltd.(up 2.3 per cent), Bank of Baroda(up 0.76 per cent) and IndusInd Bank Ltd.(up 0.49 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, ICICI Bank Ltd.(down 0.83 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd.(down 0.74 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(down 0.44 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(down 0.24 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Bank index closed 0.24 per cent down at 43891.25.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 82.0 points at 19443.55, while the BSE Sensex stood down 325.58 points at 64933.87.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Reliance Power, JP Power, Vodafone Idea and Infibeam Avenues were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Crest Ventures, Everest Kanto, SMC Global Secur, Wockhardt and Thejo Engg hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Compuage Infocom, Penta Gold, Amines Plastic, SS Infrastructure and Fourth Dimension Sol hit their fresh 52-week lows.
