Prerna's arrest in December 2018 was related to an alleged misappropriation of Rs 31.6 crore funds for the film Padman, involving Pooja Films and its head Vashu Bhagnani. Reports indicated her inability to repay investors due to losses incurred by her firm. Authorities previously revealed that the funds were spent on maintaining a luxurious lifestyle.
In his complaint, Nagesh Vaidikar, production manager at Pooja Films, alleged that Prerna Arora had sought financial assistance from Pooja Films and Vashu Bhagnani for Padman, promising them the first claim on its post-release revenue. However, it was alleged that she had already granted the rights to another organization. Subsequently, Prerna failed to return the funds to Bhagnani.
Relieved by the court's decision, Prerna Arora said, "Throughout this challenging ordeal, I maintained my faith in the system's ability to set an example for innocent individuals facing adversity."
