The deceased, whose surname is Jamaludin, was a bachelor in his 50s and living with a friend on the third floor of Blk 117, his brother-in-law told media who were at the block.

Retiree Hassan Abdul Ghani said that his wife - who is the elder sister of the deceased - was working when she received a call sometime after 9am that her brother had passed away.

The wife, who works as a cleaner, went back to her home in Jurong and informed Mr Hassan of the news.

When asked how his wife looked at that moment, Mr Hassan said she appeared worried.

The pair then headed down to the block in Bukit Merah View, arriving after 10am.

The 65-year-old pointed out that he was not too close to his brother-in-law and that he had not seen him in a while.
