Sometimes we all have to work overtime—whether it's a college paper or finalizing a business deal. But one man gets a welcome alarm every day when it's time to close his laptop and stop working.
In a Reddit video posted to the account juodabarzdis by Deividas Baumilas, 32, a video game developer from Vilnius, Lithuania, his four-year-old Bernese mountain dog called Rūkas can be seen doing anything he can to stop Baumilas from working.
Rūkas pulls out all the stops, pawing his owner's arm away from the laptop, licking him, and even very gently mouthing his wrist.
"Every day, when I work from home, Rūkas sleeps under the table," Baumilas told Newsweek, "He sleeps like a baby, but when 18:00 comes, he gets up and tries to get my attention by petting me, putting his head under my arm, pushing it, and so on. He has some kind of inner clock and just knows when 18:00 comes, and it's time to stop working and go for his evening walk."
Baumilas described Rūkas as a calm dog who sleeps under his table all day. "It's also very calming to hear him snoring, and funny to watch him dreaming and running in his sleep," he said. "He's also a great listener, and the best co-worker (though the snoring is really loud)."

Many studies have found that there are physical and mental health benefits to owning a dog, such as lowering blood pressure and reducing stress and anxiety, according to the U.K.-based animal charity the Blue Cross. "Whether you're home-based or an office worker, animals can bring a smile to your face on the most stressful of days," the organization states on its website. "If you have a dog, you can take them for a lunchtime walk to get a much-needed break from your desk."
Baumilas agrees that the best thing about having Rūkas with him all day is that he helps him keep to his healthy routine.
"I have to get up on time in the morning and go outside to walk him," he said. "Also, [I] get up from the computer to play with him from time to time and walk him again after work. If I didn't have a dog, I think my routine would be very different."
If you're thinking about getting a Bernese mountain dog, "get ready for hair everywhere, as these dogs shed a lot," warned Baumilas. "You must have time to train them. They're big dogs and if he wants to go somewhere, he will go, so you must know how to get his attention (cheese works all the time). Nevertheless, Berners are calm, friendly, and very cuddly. We call Rūkas a Velcro dog, because he must always be near, put his big head on your lap, and so on."
Users on Reddit loved the video.
"Enforcing a healthy work-life balance," commented one user.
"Our family dog does the same thing. Dad closes his laptop at the end of the day and he knows it's finally play time," wrote another user.
