A village in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh holds a unique record. No person has ever lodged an FIR in its local police station in the last 35 years. The Gram Panchayat of Nimatpur village, which is situated near the area of Bhavalkheda, resolves all the disputes of this place. It also includes other villages such as Bijlikheda and Nagariya Bahav. If there is any mutual dispute in these villages, then it is settled by the village panchayats. The Gram Panchayat organises a council for both the parties in question and announces the verdict based on their arguments and evidence. The cases never reach the police station, as they resolve the matter then and there. The accused apologises to the victim and both parties hug each other to end the dispute. The peaceful nature of these villagers and the Gram Panchayat is one of the striking features of this village.
The village head of the Gram Panchayat has been elected from the same family for the last 35 years. The family belongs to the former District Panchayat President Virendra Pal Singh Yadav. He was elected in 1988 as the village head for the first time without any opposition. The dominance of this family continued after him as his wife Lajjawati Yadav was elected to the position of village head twice, followed by his daughter-in-law Mamta Yadav. He was elected three times. Currently, her youngest son Abhay Pratap Singh Yadav is the village head.
The total population of this Gram Panchayat is 2000. During the election, 1100 people voted to elect the village head. While interacting with Local18, the former village head and former District Panchayat President, Virendra Pal Singh Yadav said the village lives in peace and harmony. He confirms that they indeed have a record of having no FIR for 35 years in this village. He also said that the Holi festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm. No intoxication is allowed in the village during this festival. During the meeting, the village head continuously appeals to the people of the village to live in harmony.
