The 15-minute display at night included various formations, including Durga’s face, Dhunuchi dance, ‘Subho Bijoya’ written in Bengali and 'Ravan Dahan'

Around 600 drones lit up the sky over Park Circus Maidan in Kolkata with a ‘Subho Bijoya’ message on Wednesday night. The show dazzled the crowd which had gathered there to watch the first such spectacle in eastern India.

The 15-minute display at night included various formations, including Durga’s face, the Dhunuchi dance, ‘Subho Bijoya’ written in Bengali and ‘Ravan Dahan’. During the Ravan Dahan part, drones were seen in a pattern showcasing Lord Ram taking aim at the demon king with his bow and arrow.

The drones flew in perfect synchronisation over the Park Circus Maidan at a height of 22 metres. The show was originally slated for Tuesday but was pushed back to Wednesday as the organizers didn’t get clearance from the Airport Authority of India. The organisers claimed that the show is comparable to the aerial dragon boat show held in China’s Shenzhen earlier this year.

64-bigha area in the heart of the city hosted a crowd of some 50,000 people to witness a never before aerial light and sound show of ‘Ravan Dahan’.

Who Organized Drone Show?

The drone show was organized by Uddipana Club of Park Circus (the organizer of the 83rd Park Circus Sarvajan Durgotsav) in association with Delhi-based tech start-up BotLab Dynamics. According to the organizers, the sound and light show was held at a height of 22 meters. The drone show was seen from seven to eight kilometres away from Park Circus Maidan.

Arjun Dhawan, a member of the organizing committee, said, ‘This is the first time that ‘Ravan Dahan’ has been shown in the sky through such a light and sound show. We got approval from the Union Home Ministry last week.’
