Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 1.59%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Thursday.

Shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(up 6.51 per cent) and TVS Motor Company Ltd.(up 0.13 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 4.01 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(down 1.77 per cent), Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 1.74 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(down 1.7 per cent) and Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 1.64 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 1.59 per cent down at 15953.05.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 264.9 points at 18857.25, while the BSE Sensex stood down 900.91 points at 63148.15.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 ended in the green, while 45 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, JP Power, Indian Railway Fin and Zomato were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Somi Conveyor, Premier Poly, Kapston Facilities, Sonata Software and Sical Logistics hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Godha Cabcon & Insul, VL E-Governance & IT, MT Educare, Speciality Rest and Netweb Technologies hit their fresh 52-week lows.
