SINGAPORE: Team Singapore's lawn bowlers have picked up a silver and a bronze at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, doubling the country's medal tally at the event.

In women's singles B6 action at the Hangzhou Wenhui School Lawn Bowls Green on Wednesday (Oct 25), Faridah Salleh secured a place in the gold medal match with a 21-10 semi-final win over India's Anju Bala.

She could not get the better of Somwang Chamnanpana of Thailand in the decider, however, and had to settle for silver after a 21-7 loss.

In the men's singles B7, meanwhile, Khirmern Mohamad rebounded from his 16-12 semi-final loss to Choochat Sukjarern of Thailand to beat South Korea's Song Myeungjun 17-11 and take the bronze.

On Wednesday, the Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) also announced that shooter Daniel Chan had booked himself a place at next year's Paralympics in Paris.

Chan, who finished fifth in the men's 10m air pistol SH1 on Tuesday, secured the spot as the highest-ranked athlete in the event who had not otherwise qualified for the Games, SNPC said.

This is Singapore's first Paralympic shooting para sport qualification, SNPC added.

Singapore is currently in 21st place in the Asian Para Games medal table with a haul of two silvers and two bronzes.

The country's other medallists at this year's Games are swimmer Toh Wei Soong, who won a silver in the 400m freestyle S7, and table tennis player Claire Toh, who bagged joint bronze in the women's singles Class 1-2.
