The NCERT panel on Wednesday recommended to replace 'India' with 'Bharat' in school textbooks, said Committee chairman C I Issac.

The NCERT panel on Wednesday recommended to replace 'India' with 'Bharat' in school textbooks, said Committee chairman C I Issac.

The panel also recommended introducing 'classical history' instead of 'ancient history' in textbooks, said the Committee chairman.

Moreover, the introduction of Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in curriculum for all subjects has also been proposed by the panel.

The Indian Constitution, the supreme law of the country, uses both ‘India’ and ‘Bharat’ in the text.

The particular article is considered as the foundational provision that establishes the Union of India.

Article 1 says “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.”

This particular article of the Constitution is a crucial statement as it lays down what our nation will be called.

The draft of Article 1 was adopted on September 18, 1949, which was moved by the chairman of the Drafting Committee, Dr. Ambedkar.
