On the other hand, Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 3.01 per cent), Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 2.6 per cent), Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 2.16 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 1.67 per cent) and Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(down 1.61 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.72 per cent down at 16497.85.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 82.05 points at 19542.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 231.62 points at 65397.62.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red.
Shares of Suzlon Energy, YES Bank, NBCC , Vodafone Idea and IRB Infra Dev. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Dhunseri Invst, Bombay Burmah, GKW Ltd, Summit Sec and Prajay Engg hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Madhya Bharat Agro, SecMark Consultancy, Rajesh Exports, Tatva Chintan Pharm and Winsome Yarns hit their fresh 52-week lows.
