However, stocks such as Gensol Engg, Winsome Yarns, Tatva Chintan Pharm, V Mart Retail and Xelpmoc Design, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 38 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 12 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, BPCL, Power Grid, SBI Life, HDFC Life and Coal India Ltd were among top gainers during the day, while Tata Motors, L&T, UPL, IndusInd Bank and TCS ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 261.16 points up at 66428.09.
Traders piled up positions in Fertilisers, Telecommunications, Mining, Trading and Plastics sectors, while selling was witnessed in Construction, Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock, General, Electric/Electronics and Pharmaceuticals sectors during the day.
