A portion of an under-construction bridge at Maharashtra’s Chiplun on the Mumbai-Goa Highway collapsed on Monday afternoon. The girder of the bridge collapsed the same morning at around 8 a.m. No casualties were reported following the incident.

In a video of the incident, a part of the flyover can be seen collapsing. A crane was damaged completely in the incident. Residents and pedestrians in the area looked visibly shocked upon witnessing the collapse.

In August 2023, at least 17 workers died and several others were injured after an under-construction railway bridge collapsed in Mizoram’s Sairang. The incident occurred about 21 km from the capital city of Aizawl, while construction work was underway at the site.

Earlier this year, the Sultanganj Agwani bridge, which was under construction in Bihar’s Bhagalpur, collapsed for the second time. The bridge was being built on the Ganga River at the cost of Rs 1,710 crores.

A purported video of the collapse, recorded by locals showed a part of bridge falling down into the river, and a massive cloud of smoke rising up after it. The bridge was being constructed by a Haryana-based company called SP Singla.
