Israel-Palestine Conflict: Biden Speaks to Palestinian President; Water Supply to Gaza Restored

Us President Joe Biden said that he spoke with Palestinian Authority President Abbas to condemn Hamas’ attack on Israel. He also said that he reiterated that Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination.

Biden further said, “I assured him that we’re working with partners in the region to ensure humanitarian supplies reach civilians in Gaza and to prevent the conflict from widening.”

US Air Combat Command announced on Sunday that additional US attack aircrafts have arrived in the Middle East as part of a plan to bolster American defense posture in the region.

A US official previously told CNN that the additional A-10 Warthog attack aircraft that have been deployed along with other US fighter jets is intended to deter any Iranian aggression or an expansion of the fighting beyond the border of Israel.

Amidst a rocket fire on Sunday, a bipartisan US Senate delegation was forced to take shelter in Tel Aviv.  US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer shared the update through a social media post.

“While in Tel Aviv today, our delegation was rushed to a shelter to wait out rockets sent by Hamas,” Schumer wrote. “It shows you what Israelis have to go through. We must provide Israel with the support required to defend itself.”

Schumer is leading the delegation on a trip to meet high-level Israeli officials in order to show US support for Israel. He posted a photo of senators and staffers standing in an Israeli shelter.

Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip have killed at least 2,450 people since Hamas’s bloody attack on southern Israel last week, the Gaza health ministry said on Sunday.

Another 9,200 people have also been injured as Israel continued its blistering air campaign on targets in the Palestinian coastal enclave, the AFP quoted the Hamas-controlled ministry as saying.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “We’re determined to stand with and for innocent civilians who suffer primarily as a consequence of what Hamas has done on all sides.”

Water supply to the Gaza Strip has been restored by Jerusalem after it was shut off following the Hamas terror that had hit last Saturday,  a senior Israeli official confirmed.

As a part of Operation Ajay, Spicejet said that it will operate their second flight on Sunday.

The airline further said that on Sunday at 7 p.m, SpiceJet’s Airbus A340 aircraft will take off from Delhi for Tel Aviv and will return to Delhi the next morning.

A group of 120 Israeli nationals, among others, will be travelling from Delhi to Tel Aviv on the SpiceJet flight.

As per protocol, five rockets were intercepted by the IDF Aerial Defence Array.

Operation Ajay, the rescue operation launched by the Government of India to bring back its citizens stuck in war-hit Israel landed in Chennai on Sunday.

Under Operation Ajay, special charter flights were scheduled to go from India to bring back Indians from Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces said that it is hitting at the source of the latest anti-tank guided missile that was fired from Lebanon on Sunday, as quoted by The Times of Israel.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conducted an expanded emergency cabinet meeting on Sunday, for the first time.

He said that the country gears up to “demolish Hamas” in Gaza.

Taking to X, US President Joe Biden said, “We must not lose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians had nothing to do with Hamas’s appalling attacks, and are suffering as a result of them.”

Pope Francis called for humanitarian corridors to help the ones under siege in Gaza. As quoted by news agency Reuters, he also appealed to release the hostages that have been held by Hamas, the militant Islamist group.

Israel has started evacuating the elderly people from nursing homes in the southern city of Ashkelon. The total population of the city is nearly 150,000.

The residents of Ofakim have received an ‘all-clear’, following a suspected infiltration, said local authorities.

Following a suspected terrorist infiltration, residents of a neighborhood in Ofakim were ordered to take shelter as forces carried out searches.

The municipality also told residents of the Shapira neighborhood located in the southern part of the city to keep staying in their bomb shelters and lock their homes until further notice.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on October 14 that the first evacuation flight for Ukrainian citizens has left Israel carrying 207 Ukrainians, including 63 children.

He also said that the flight departed for Bucharest from Tel Aviv.

The next flight has been scheduled for October 15 and will go to the Romanian city of Cluj.
