Nick, the leverage is concerning with a B rated portfolio. You give 17.5% vs. 27.8% effective leverage here: www.cefconnect.com/...
I can live with the former for a trade in GUG but not with the latter.
@fortel I found the leverage ratio on their portfolio. CEFConnect looks to be prior to what they deleveraged since.
@Nick Ackerman How does this compare with GBAB? I realize GBAB currently is running at a 3% premium compared to GUG's 15% discount, but GBAB portfolio has only 5% below BBB rating while GUG has 32% below BBB. Shouldn't that make a difference? They yield about the same and are both close to their lows. Thank you
@Eileen Dover as you noted, GBAB is primarily investment grade and munis, so it should be safer.

Thanks Nick —I have tiny traded around this fund in the past for a small total return profit and I like the discount , especially now, and will get back in.. Howard Marks thinks credit heavy funds will outperform the S&P going forward—any funds you’d recommend in light of that?….I have been nibbling in NRGX with the hope Pimco with a clean slate can do better when the transition comes in a month—-god knows with PFN and PDO making lows this week , it seems they are an uphill battle and Pimco may have to succumb and make a distribution cut—I hope not but with the last two weeks NAV compression it’s like investors are forcing them to do so?
@Sane Man thank you for reading! Given the weak coverage in the PIMCO space and leverage, I'd generally be shying away. However, I think WDI is a more interesting fund that is leveraged at this time. I also covered BANX recently, and it might be of interest - although it has an opaque portfolio. I also think that NRGX is a good tactical position as they go through a transition to a more multi-sector bond fund approach similar to their other funds. That could see the fund trade at a premium eventually.

@Sane Man thx—-WDI I do own already and have a good-weighted position
@Sane Man Same here, thanks to a column by Nick a while ago.
