President Droupadi Murmu has underscored the critical role of energy efficiency and renewable energy in India's pursuit of net-zero emissions. Speaking to officers of the Central Power Engineering Service and probationers of the Indian Trade Service during a meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu highlighted the power sector's pivotal role in India's development.

Energy demand and consumption are key indicators of a country's socio-economic progress. As India continues its journey to becoming the world's third-largest economy, power demand and consumption are expected to rise, further driving the nation's development. To achieve net-zero emissions, the president stressed that energy efficiency and renewable energy are indispensable.

Energy efficiency, often referred to as the ‘first fuel’ in clean energy transitions by the International Energy Agency, offers rapid and cost-effective climate change mitigation while enhancing energy security and reducing bills.

President Murmu encouraged the officers to prioritise increasing energy efficiency to facilitate the attainment of climate-related goals.

She acknowledged the challenges of transitioning to renewable energy and grid integration and urged the officers to adopt a holistic approach to address these challenges.

In the power sector, she emphasised the importance of research and innovation, whether in energy storage, grid management, or new forms of energy generation. Research and development are crucial to keeping India competitive on the global stage.

Addressing the probationers of the Indian Trade Service, President Murmu highlighted the significance of trade in economic development and India's commitment to digital and sustainable trade facilitation.

She urged them to utilize the latest trade analytics tools to understand the evolving international trade landscape. Recognizing the interconnected nature of a country's social, economic, and political interests, the president emphasised the importance of aligning decisions with India's broader economic goals and interests.
