TotalEnergies (TTE) is probably one of the more "risk-on" majors that I follow. But taking those risks appears to have paid off big time for this company. Management has for some time reported a lot of major discoveries (mostly offshore). But it

love the company but only have a token position along with Hess. Unsure which I'll want to turn into a major position. While somewhat similar, I'm tending toward Hess. Any rationale that I should do otherwise?
@Geosands Hess is pure Guyana and the whole project is run by Exxon Mobil.
Total is more diversified but will likely grow slower because it is larger.
Your choice.
Very good article and long thesis. I like it for all the reasons you mention. Including the nice dividend for life. It's actually the #2 position of my top 5 investments:

TTE also bought a major stake in my 5th largest holding there, Clearway Energy (CWEN), last year. They gave it a valuation of $35 and are in much higher than me on a cost basis. I'm taking a bath in it with TTE, but I have two major positions there for the transtion to renewables of the future.
Thanks
@Racer-X Clearway (CWEN and CWEN.A) look very attractive to me at current levels.
The prior TTE backing may even lead to a full buyout, and they could get it now at a steal compared to their initially priced stake.
Either way, Clearway will be one of the leading US renewable players for many years moving forward.
Long TTE for many years.

Excellent analysis and article. Thanks very much. TTE has been a valuable addition to my portfolio.
@Craig Cooper They are definitely better run than they used to be
@Long Player Agree .... They were never the easiest to partner with and always seemed to be a bit behind. They took a very lackadaisical approach to things.
