The National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with security forces carried out searches at the house of Nisar Ahmed alias Haji Nisar in Gursai area of Mendhar, Poonch.

These are routine searches as NIA already arrested Ahmed early this month in the Dhangri terror attack where seven Hindus were killed.

The central agency arrested Nisar Ahmed along with Mushtaq Hussain on August 31 for allegedly harbouring terrorists who had killed seven innocent civilians in Dhangri village of J&K’s Rajouri early this year.

Before they were officially arrested by the NIA, both Ahmed and Hussain were lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal (Jammu) in another case.

The central agency in a statement said that the two were produced before the Special NIA Court on September 1 and were sent to NIA custody for 12 days. Five persons were killed when terrorists fired indiscriminately on the members of the minority community at Dhangri village on January 1.

Two more persons were killed and several others injured when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which was left behind by the terrorists before fleeing the village, exploded.

During investigations, the statement said, a team of NIA officials camped for a while in the hilly terrain of Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi districts of J&K and examined a large number of suspicious entities and later zeroed in on the two accused who had provided “logistics support to the terrorists for more than two months”.

The case — initially registered at Rajouri Police Station under several sections of Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act — was re-registered by the NIA on January 13. The agency said that the two arrested has provided logistical support to the terrorists for more than two months and had also given them shelter in a hideout as per instructions from Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba’s handlers.
