A Ghaziabad woman died after she was hit by a speeding car on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway while resisting a harassment attempt. The woman, identified as Santa, was working in a nearby field when the incident happened on September 9.

According to India Today, the woman was working in a nearby field, along with another woman when a man, who was stalking her for the past few days, reached the spot and started making obscene gestures at her.

Infuriated by the constant harassment, the woman ran behind the man to fend him off but was hit by a speeding car. She was then rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a few days later.

As per the police, the accused used to stalk the woman and make obscene gestures at her. A case has been registered and the accused was arrested on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as 34-year-old Ankit Chaudhary, a former personnel of a central police force. He has been arrested on charges of flashing at two women.

The police booked Chaudhary under Indian Penal Code Section (IPC) 354a (sexual harassment), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) while they booked the unidentified car driver under IPC section 279 (rash driving) and 304a (causing death by negligence).

On the other hand, the victim’s family blamed the Highway Authority of India and questioned why two-wheelers were even allowed on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Police also found that several other women faced similar instances in the past where the same accused was involved.

This comes days after a girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar lost her life after some miscreants tried to tug her dupatta causing her to fall from her bicycle on a moving road. The victim was reportedly crushed to death under a motorcycle.

The victim was heading home from school at around 3:30 PM when she was waylaid by the three accused, identified as Shahnawaz, Arbaaz, and Faisal.
